Harley Quinn Annual #1 Bombshells Variant

To celebrate New York Comic Con (and the wildly successful Fan Girls’ Night Out, naturally), I looked to one of my favorite characters in DC’s canon for inspiration: Harley Quinn. Ever since the character’s introduction in the animated series of the early 90’s, she’s occupied a special place in my heart, not simply because she pulls off a jester costume the way so few people can, but because she’s, to put it politely, absolutely fucking nuts. There are plenty of reasons to love Harley, her poor taste in men notwithstanding, and with a few (sort of) simple steps, you can show the world just how much you care.

To celebrate Geek Girl Brunch’s Marvel Month, I took inspiration from an iconic hero who bears her universe’s namesake: Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers is a genuine, grade-A badass so we hope we did her justice with this star-spangled design.

Moon Prism Mani- A Sailor Moon Manicure Tutorial

Brunch, as we all know, isn’t merely a meal. It is an event. And what fun is an event if you don’t have a super cute manicure to match? In honor of Magical Girl month, I’ve tackled a relatively simple nail art design inspired by Sailor Moon, chiefly the Inner Senshi and their outfits.

Step 1:

Gather your materials. Since I’m doing the Inner Senshi, I made sure I had a variety of colors that matched their sailor costumes. I also included a few lighter and darker shades of the core colors for highlighting/shadowing. You’ll also need a dotting tool of some kind (feel free to get creative if you don’t have one on hand — for a long time, I used a dull pencil), a thin detail brush, and a wider brush to help with clean up afterwards. Absolutely necessary: Acetone.
